About

 Hi, I'm Brian Baker.

I love nothing more than talking about God with people. I've been doing that since Christ saved me about 50 years ago!

I've been privileged to serve Him as a teacher, pastor, counselor, apologist, every-day Christian in the workplace, churchman, and as a husband and dad.

My goal as a biblical counselor is to help you employ God's many means of grace so that you may experience growing measures of the"love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control" produced by His Spirit within His children. (Galatians 5:22-23)

I recently left my 37-year career in Electronics as a "Failure Analysis Engineering Manager" in the Semiconductor industry and started Immanuel Biblical Counseling, LLC.

I know credentials don't guarantee a good counselor; however, experience and education certainly help. Plus it's a good starting point to help you choose a counselor.

I earned a Master of Theology degree from Dallas Theological Seminary where I first seriously and formally studied the Bible, Theology, and Church History. I was captivated!

Yes...Church History! It was eye-opening and life-changing. Long story-short, I became "Reformed." The net effect was that God became holier, my sin greater, salvation more bewildering, worship more meaningful, and the church more important. After graduating, I joined two other men in planting the Dallas Reformed Baptist Church, where I was ordained in 2010.

In 2018 I earned a Doctor of Ministry degree in Applied Apologetics at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. My thesis showed the influence of Cornelius Van Till’s Presuppositional Apologetics upon Jay Adams’s Nouthetic Counseling, and argued for the value of Apologetics in counseling Christians.

Confessional, Reformed, and Baptist with an eye toward the cultural influences upon our thinking will be the "flavor" of counseling at IBC. However, the Scriptures are paramount and the only authoritative guide.

In Philippians 2:13 we are told "for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure." What an amazingly hopeful reality!

Now, I look forward to meeting you.

"I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus"
